Hearing threshold estimation in infants using auditory steady-state responses.
Successful early intervention in children with permanent hearing loss requires assessment techniques that can accurately reflect the behavioral audiogram in infancy. This retrospective study compared auditory steady-state response (ASSR) findings from subjects tested in the first three months of life with subsequently obtained behavioral hearing levels. ASSR audiograms were established using am...

متن کاملIntussusception in preterm infants.
Two cases of intussusception in infants born at 26 and 30 weeks' gestation are described. The two infants presented in the neonatal period with abdominal distension, intolerance of feeds, and rectal bleeding. An initial diagnosis of necrotising enterocolitis was made and the infants were treated medically. This led to a delay in the diagnosis of the intussusception. Published work on neonatal i...
متن کاملNeuroprotection in Preterm Infants
Preterm infants born before the 30th week of pregnancy are especially at risk of perinatal brain damage which is usually a result of cerebral ischemia or an ascending intrauterine infection. Prevention of preterm birth and early intervention given signs of imminent intrauterine infection can reduce the incidence of perinatal cerebral injury. It has been shown that administering magnesium intrav...
متن کاملImprovement in auditory and visual evoked potentials in jaundiced preterm infants after exchange transfusion.
Two preterm infants with peak serum bilirubin concentrations of 270 mumol/l and 200 mumol/l, respectively showed improvement in the wave peak latencies of the auditory and visual evoked potentials after exchange transfusion. The implications of this observation and the use of evoked potential recording in neonatal jaundice are discussed.
